Leaf Stick Insects

I have a Leaf Stick insect as a pet which I think is very interesting. They are really easy to look after, you just need to change their eucalyptus leaves regularly and spray the leaves with water every day.

My Leaf Stick Insect - Leafy

These insects have an incomplete life cycle which means that it skips the pupau phase and is born a mini version of the adult.

Whilst a female can breed without a male all the babies will be females. In the wild, a female releases a strong scent to attract a mate. This helps the male find the well camouflaged female.

They use their tails to fling their eggs into the soil. The eggs can take up to 2 years to hatch.

  1. We went to buy a stick insect so we could have one too but the mean parents decided for $25ea they'd take the kids to the park to find one for free.

    1. Maybe a Giant Burrowing Cockroach which can grow to a size that fits an adult hand would be better?
