These insects have an incomplete life cycle which means that it skips the pupau phase and is born a mini version of the adult.
Whilst a female can breed without a male all the babies will be females. In the wild, a female releases a strong scent to attract a mate. This helps the male find the well camouflaged female.
They use their tails to fling their eggs into the soil. The eggs can take up to 2 years to hatch.

We went to buy a stick insect so we could have one too but the mean parents decided for $25ea they'd take the kids to the park to find one for free.
